EastEnders actress Natalie Cassidy hopes her memory may now improve, following her recent exit from the soap as Sonia Fowler after 32 years
EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy believes her long-term acting career has taken a toll on her memory.
Speaking on her podcast Life With Nat, the 41-year-old actress discussed a range of topics with her brother Tony, including their childhood memories.
During the episode, Natalie responded to a listener’s message which read: “I love how family-oriented you are and how he tells you snippets of your childhood that you don’t know.”
The actress believes that her memory issues might be linked to her profession, telling the fan: “Well, that’s because I don’t remember much, I don’t know if that’s good or not Hayley, to be honest.
“My memory has shot to pieces and that’s because when I learn lines at EastEnders… I feel all my life, I learn something and I throw it away.”
The mother-of-two also shared her belief in the brain’s adaptability, adding: “I genuinely believe that there are different muscles in the brain, and I really believe I’ve been trained to do something to then just throw it away.”
The actress went on to express hope that her memory might improve following her departure from the long-running soap.
“Maybe that’ll change, I don’t retain much,” she added.” But I love it when Tony or David [her other brother] or anyone really says, ‘Oh, do you remember when this happened?”.
Natalie announced her exit from EastEnders after an impressive 32-year stint in January.
In a statement at the time, she said she was “extremely sad” but also “very excited” about moving on to “pastures new”.
“EastEnders is in my bones so I will never forget where I started my career and I will continue to love the show,” she added.
Sonia’s exit scenes are set to air within the forthcoming weeks, though this doesn’t mean the end of her presence on television.
Set for a fresh challenge, she recently revealed she’ll be hosting a new Channel 4 series titled What’s The Big Deal?.
The four-part show will delve into today’s most hyped products and trends, from the likes of teeth whiteners to ice baths.
Alongside experts such as scientists and nutritionists, the actress will investigate how such products actually work and which ones she thinks are worth the hype.
