Fans were elated as they celebrated the change
Emmerdale fans spotted that the ITV soap had changed Beth Cordingly’s character name on the end credits after her estranged father Anthony Fox was murdered earlier this year.
Actress Beth Cordingly joined Emmerdale in 2024 as Ruby Fox-Miligan. Starting off as a feisty and not to be messed with character, fans grew suspicious around her relationship with her father Anthony and daughter Steph – both of who she didn’t really have contact with.
Anthony and Steph both arrived on the ITV soap together last year and it was clear that Ruby felt uncomfortable when Anthony announced that he would be staying for the foreseeable in order to make amends with his estranged daughter.
However, things soon escalated when viewers learned that Anthony had repeatedly sexually abused Ruby when she was a teenager, including one incident where he turned out to be Steph’s biological father.
Once Caleb found out the truth he held his father-in-law at gunpoint and demanded answers. Although he left without a scratch, Anthony met his fate at the depot when Aaron found him there and beat him to a pulp.
Fans later learned that it was Ruby who ended up killing him after she found him lay on the floor battered and bruised. Ruby decided to seek her own justice and put an end to his life by covering his mouth with a rag.
While originally trying to conceal the truth from Steph, she grew suspicious around her family and decided to dig deeper. Eventually, she found a gun in Caleb’s safe and forced him to go to the police station and hand himself in for shooting Anthony.
In order to protect Ruby, he agreed. This led Ruby no choice but to confess everything to her daughter, who was left traumatised and in shock at the revelation.
Now, Steph is part of the “murder club” which currently involves herself, Ruby, Caleb, Aaron, John, Chas and Cain.
During Thursday’s (27th March) episode, Steph and Ruby tried to bond as they vowed to move on from Anthony’s harrowing past. However, they were none the wiser that Caleb’s life is hanging in the balance after Joe Tate had him stabbed and kidnapped to use him as a kidney donor.
As fans watched the credits rolled, one took to X (formerly known as Twitter) as they spotted that Ruby’s last name had been changed from Miligan-Fox to jut Miligan.
@bethscordingly wrote: “emmerdale taking ‘fox’ out of ruby’s name has made my DAY” to which @CHARITYDALES replied: “YES THERE IS A GOD”.
Another viewer @kghaiths added: “wait I didn’t even notice this oh my god” before adding: “it makes me soooooo happy I mean I knew it was coming but still seeing it in black and white is so much better”
@rubymiligan wrote: “I feel heard and seen at last” as @SapphicSoaps simply echoed: “AS THEY SHOULD” as they celebrated the change.
Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
