Letters: Death of the good vibe Regina Folk Festival lamentable

I was saddened to learn the Regina Folk Festival shall be no more. As the festival sound guy for 14 years, I had the privilege of working with the remarkable community that made the whole thing work.

The heart and persistence of the grassroots folkies, the vision of the organizers and the commitment of joyful volunteers fostered a vibe that was special to simply be a part of. That vibe was shared by, thousands of attendees. It was a special event.

Where has Moe been on tariffs?

At a time when Canada’s sovereignty and economic prosperity are under attack, it should be an all-hands-on-deck, bipartisan effort in Canada’s defence.

Whether you agree or disagree with him, you have to admit Ontario Premier Doug Ford is rocking it. British Columbia Premier David Eby is in the news. Even Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is at least talking — if only to right-wing American podcasters who hold the views of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration.

But where’s our guy? You know, Scott Moe. The guy we elected and pay to do the very thing other elected officials are doing. Where’s our threat of tariffs or export taxes on potash and uranium in support of Canada?

Is Moe locked out of his office? Maybe his cellphone battery is dead. Or he maybe can’t find his car keys. Maybe he’s waiting to pounce at any mention of the carbon tax or school kids’ use of pronouns. It’s big-boy pants time, Mr. Premier.

If you’re unwilling or unable to support Canada beyond saying pipelines are good to go, get out of the way. You can either be part of the solution or part of the problem. Remaining silent clearly marks you as the latter.

Carney will never sit in the House

If you thought Democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris was a poor choice to lead a country, just watch Mark Carney. I can see Carney, on election night, resigning as both Liberal Party leader and from the seat in Parliament he just won — even before he ever steps foot in the House of Commons.

Mark Carney will go down in history as a political anomaly: The only Canadian prime minister who never sat in the House of Commons. King Carney only wants to be in Canada if he can have all the perks and privileges of being prime minister.

I predict that within a month of Liberals losing the next federal election, Carney will ditch Canada and move back to Ireland, claiming again, to be a proud European citizen. You heard it here first.
